Green Garden Mutual Insurance Company was
founded on March 23, 1867 by Henry R. Stassen, Jr., a young
immigrant farmer who came to this country from Germany and settled
in Monee, Illinois. Henry and eight other farmers from Green Garden
Township started the Green Garden Mutual with the concept of
neighbors, hand in hand, helping neighbors with the result of a
lower insurance rate than that of the old line Eastern insurance
companies.
